Children's charity campaign gets underway in Belarus

The New Year charity campaign Our Children kicked off in Belarus on 10 December, BelTA has learned.

Traditionally, the heads of government agencies and state-owned enterprises, leaders of public associations will visit the social facilities to wish children Happy New Year and give them computers, toys, sports equipment, sweets. Particular attention will be given to children who are in a difficult life situation, students of boarding schools, children from large families, foster families, children with disabilities.

In 2017 the governmental bodies, organizations subordinate to the government, companies, banks, public associations provided financial support, purchased equipment, and gifts worth more than Br1.205 million. It is expected that this year's campaign will involve more than 90 institutions, enterprises and organizations and over 120 orphanages, social pedagogical centers, social shelters. It is expected that more than 15,000 children will be involved in the campaign.

The campaign will include a Christmas and New Year charity event for children with the participation of the head of state. The event will be held at the Palace of the Republic on the eve of the New Year celebrations. More than 2,000 children aged between 8 to 14 from different regions of the country have already been invited to join in. The campaign will also comprise other significant events, including an event for the best school and university students at the Palace of Independence, Christmas and New Year celebrations with the participation of the chairpersons of the oblast executive committees and the Minsk City Hall, festivities for children in orphanages, hospitals and other institutions. Christmas and New Year celebrations will be held in every region of the country for children from large families, foster families and other categories of children who need special care. As part of the charity campaign, children from orphanages, foster families, guardianship families, family-type orphanages will visit Father Frost's residence in Belovezhskaya Pushcha National Park. Christmas parties and festivities will be held across the country. Children will meet with the country's outstanding people, lawmakers, MPs and athletes.
